ABOUT US

About Motion Scan Systems

Our Story

Motion Scan Systems was founded in 2024 by Nathan Clark, an expert in audio and video restoration, audio forensics, and digital film transfers, with a clear purpose: to design and build professional film scanning equipment for long-term preservation.

Before launching Motion Scan Systems, Nathan owned and operated a specialized transfer house focused on restoring audio recordings, video formats, and motion picture film. While many large transfer facilities focused solely on one-to-one transfers, the work performed in his studio emphasized true restoration, applying professional techniques whenever appropriate to deliver the highest possible image and sound quality.

Years of hands-on experience with high-end film scanning systems revealed a recurring problem. Many professional film scanners were extremely expensive, overly complex, or dependent on aging hardware and discontinued software. As a result, smaller studios, archivists, and independent filmmakers were often unable to access reliable, high-quality film scanning solutions.

Motion Scan Systems was created to solve that problem by building modern, professional-grade film scanners that emphasize image quality, serviceability, and long-term support—without unnecessary complexity or planned obsolescence.

Built Entirely In-House in the USA

Every Motion Scan Systems film scanner is designed, manufactured, assembled, calibrated, and tested entirely in-house in the United States.

We do not outsource manufacturing.
We do not rely on white-label hardware or third-party factories.

Maintaining complete control of the manufacturing process allows us to ensure:

  • Consistent Quality Control — Each scanner is individually built, calibrated, and tested before shipment

  • Long-Term Serviceability — Systems are designed for maintenance, upgrades, and continued use over many years

  • Direct Technical Support — Customers communicate directly with the engineers who designed and built their scanner

  • Professional-Grade Construction — Built as archival tools, not disposable consumer equipment

This in-house approach allows Motion Scan Systems scanners to evolve as imaging technology advances, rather than becoming obsolete.

Our Philosophy

Film preservation requires specialized tools, careful handling, and equipment that can be trusted with irreplaceable materials.

At Motion Scan Systems, our philosophy is straightforward:

  • Build professional film scanning equipment with intention

  • Provide long-term support after the sale

  • Design systems that can be upgraded as technology improves

  • Every design decision is made with the goal of preserving film accurately, consistently, and responsibly.

This philosophy is best explained by our founder.

A Letter from the Founder

If you are reading this, it likely means you care deeply about film — and about doing things the right way.

Motion Scan Systems was created for people who believe that preservation matters, that equipment should be built with intention, and that customers should never feel forgotten once a purchase is complete.

The Scan Studio Pro was not designed as a disposable machine, a closed system, or a product meant to be replaced in a few years. It was designed to be the last scanner you ever need to buy.

Film-scanning technology continues to evolve. Cameras improve. Sensors become more capable. Lenses get sharper. Software grows more powerful. From the beginning, Scan Studio Pro was engineered with this reality in mind. The platform is modular and upgradeable, allowing the scanner to grow alongside advances in imaging technology — rather than becoming obsolete because of them.

The software follows the same philosophy. It is not frozen in time. It will continue to be refined, expanded, and improved as new capabilities are developed. Profits from Motion Scan Systems are reinvested directly into ongoing development, support, and long-term improvements — not short-term trends.

Every Scan Studio Pro is built, tested, and shipped in our own shop here in the United States.

We do not outsource manufacturing.

We do not rely on unknown third-party factories.

The same team that designs the scanner assembles it, tests it, and stands behind it.

When you contact Motion Scan Systems, you are not reaching a sales department — you are reaching the people who built your machine.

There is one thing I want to be very clear about, because it matters deeply to me:

This company exists to serve the work — and the people doing it.

If, at some point in the future, Motion Scan Systems could not continue under these same values of quality, integrity, and long-term support, the technology behind our scanners would not disappear. In that case, the designs and software would be released openly, so that a future generation could continue building, improving, and preserving what matters.

The work is bigger than any one person — including me.

This is my commitment to you:

You will not be abandoned.
Your investment will not be locked away.
And the tools you rely on will always be respected as professional instruments — not disposable products.

Thank you for caring about film.

Thank you for trusting us with your work.
